iar: magazine the end

How much did I spend? £104.98

What shops did I go to? 7 independent newsagents, 4 WHSmiths, 2 department stores, 2 supermarkets, 1 supermarket delivery, 1 station shop, 1 seaside shop, 1 market stall, 1 hospital shop, and an art gallery.

Have I kept any of them? most went in the bin pretty quickly/immediately, the rug magazine sat on the shelf for a while, only 'Elephant' has survived (but really because I was intrigued by the sex-rays ;-) and maybe because it cost £15!).

Interesting fact: the most expensive magazine was £14.99 and the cheapest £1 - but the cheapest was bought from a market stall that sold out of date magazines, and if it had been full price it would have been the most expensive magazine at £17 :)

Other fascinating price statistics (for all you accountants out there :-) :
  • Mode: £3.50
  • Median: £3.55
  • Average: £4.04
The best magazine: Intelligent Life (or possibly Scientific American)
The worst magazine: SOO difficult to choose, but it has to be XXL. If this was the first magazine I'd looked at though, I might have been more tolerant.
The magazine I'm glad I bought most: Crafty Carper

How many would I buy again?
  • Yes: 2
  • No: 22
  • Maybe if I was rich: 1
  • Maybe if I was really bored: 1
Have I changed and developed as a person? not perceptibly, but I do hate magazines! I stick by my realisation in week 4 (Digital Photo):

"My theory of magazines: One-subject magazines are very dull - I can't imagine that anyone who is actually into the subject would read them. eg I would claim only a passing and practical interest in 'digital photography', but this was below my level. My theory is that if there's a subject you know very little about, when you first get into it you would probably find these magazines interesting for the first three issues - then you're gone."

Which makes me wonder if I should have taken my own advice and quit then!! ;-) Really, I 'm glad I didn't as there have been some interesting moments, and there have been some blasts from the past in unexpected places. And I apologise for the unimaginative over-use of the word "dull"!

[in case you were wondering... I am genuinely pleased that this is over. it's been a pain in the...]
