K = Kent Life [No 545 July 2010 £2.99 pp 148+92]
This is an incredibly dull magazine. It's an extended 'advertising feature'. It's like the free magazines that get put through the door - which is irritating because I paid £3 for it! The first 25 pages are full of estate agent pages, then a bit of 'society' (the dullards of Kent fine-dining...). The final third was only adverts and advertising features (why not come horse riding, we ask Smug-o Stables to tell us what it's like - oh, and there's an advert for it...).
The 'freebie' magazine (worth £1.95) is the guide to the county's towns and villages. Visitors are enticed with pictures of castles, country houses, cliffs and seascapes - and a number of rather strange shots...
Positive thing?: It's an independent publishing company that publishes lots of regional magazines - so you can feel at home in Sussex, Essex...

Time taken to read: 2 baths
Alternatives: K and L were tricky. One could say desperate. I trudged round numerous shops and found nothing. Kerrang was an option, but I couldn't say for certain that I hadn't bought it as a teenager. The only magazine I could find was 'Look' and as I'd read most of it in a 5-second flick-through I decided against it. I'm still searching for L :(
Bought from: Pumpkin with coins, from a man who works at Pumpkin in the day and a newsagent/convenience store in the evening. He sometimes smiles, but never looks really happy. Or in the moment.
[in case you were wondering... the most interesting article was about the history of Oxo cubes].
