iar: magazine D

D = Digital Photo [Issue 130 June 2010 £4.99 pp 140]

I thought I would enjoy this magazine but I found it difficult to bring myself to read it.

My lover said: "It's the worst f*ing horror in the world" and then binned it and refused to let me look at it anymore. I wasn't sad.

My theory of magazines: One-subject magazines are very dull - I can't imagine that anyone who is actually into the subject would read them. I would claim only a passing and practical interest in 'digital photography', but this was below my level. My theory is that if there's a subject you know very little about, when you first get into it you would probably find these magazines interesting for the first three issues - then you're gone.

  • Would I buy again: No. Crafty Carp is the best magazine so far.
  • Time taken to read: a 15 minute skim-through whilst watching TV, 10 minutes dedicated DP time.
  • Heard of it before? maybe
    • Free gifts: A CD and a 'magazine'. Is an extended article really a free gift, just because it's detached from the main magazine? One to ponder... :)

    Bought in Sainsburys from a very friendly woman with curly brown/grey hair. She asked me if I had a nectar card - I didn't, I'd forgotten my wallet. Fortunately I had just cashed in a jar full of coppers (£21.13) and paid with that.

    Alternatives: again slim. Maybe I should go somewhere that has a primary function of selling magazines next time! They had a lot of Cs but the only other D was 'Delicious' - it's a cooking mag and I bought it years ago to use as a base for sticking recipes in.

    [in case you were wondering... my lover thought 'Palouse Lupin Rays' was one of the most hideous 'photographs' he had ever seen, and briefly pinned it on the wall before burning it].
